International Document Courier Service: Secure, Tracked, Door-to-Door
When a signed contract, a Bill of Lading or a set of tender documents has to reach another country, ordinary post is a gamble. ICExpress moves your business-critical paperwork across borders with door-to-door collection, tamper-evident handling and a signature at the other end.
ICExpress couriers business, legal and commercial documents internationally from South Africa - door-to-door collection, tamper-evident handling, end-to-end tracking, customs documentation and signature proof of delivery. What an international document courier service covers
A specialist document courier is built around one job: getting important paperwork from one country to another intact, on time and with a clear chain of custody. ICExpress handles the categories of document that businesses cannot afford to lose:
Contracts & agreements
Signed contracts, purchase agreements and other originals that need a wet-ink signature abroad.
Tender & legal documents
Tender submissions, court papers, notarised documents and legal correspondence with hard deadlines.
Certificates & authenticated papers
Certificates of origin, authenticated and apostilled documents, and other officially stamped papers.
Shipping & trade documents
Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, import permits and export licences that release cargo.
Business correspondence
Proposals, financial statements and time-sensitive business correspondence for overseas partners.
Cross-border & airfreight
International document delivery moves on our cross-border and international airfreight services.
What we do not carry
Being a specialist means being clear about the limits. Some items are on the ICExpress Prohibited Items list and are not accepted on any service - stating this up front protects you from a shipment that cannot be covered if something goes wrong:
- Personal identity documents - passports, identity books, identity cards and driver's licences are prohibited and are not couriered.
- Cash and valuables - cash, jewellery, precious metals, artworks and antiques are excluded and are not carried under any service.
If you are unsure whether an item can travel, ask us before you book - our team will confirm against the Prohibited Items list.

- Door-to-door collectionWe collect your documents from your office anywhere in South Africa - no trip to a depot.
- Secure, tamper-evident packagingOriginals are sealed in a tamper-evident document pouch so any interference is visible on arrival.
- Customs documentationWe prepare the courier and commercial documentation your shipment needs to clear customs at the destination.
- Tracked in transitFollow your shipment from collection, through departure and customs, to final delivery.
- Signature proof of deliveryYou receive confirmation, with a signature, the moment your documents are handed over.

Customs paperwork for documents crossing borders
Even a thin envelope crosses a customs border. Documents are declared on the courier waybill and, where a destination requires it, supporting commercial documentation. Requirements differ by country, so a specialist prepares the paperwork rather than leaving it to chance.
- A clear description of the documents and their purpose on the waybill.
- Sender and receiver details that match the paperwork exactly.
- Any destination-specific commercial or export documentation the shipment calls for.
For the South African export and customs framework, the SARS Customs and Excise guidance is the authoritative reference. We align every shipment's paperwork to the destination's requirements.
Secure handling, proof of delivery and liability
Documents travel sealed in tamper-evident packaging and are signed for on delivery, giving you a documented chain of custody from collection to hand-over. That proof of delivery is often as important as the speed - it is your record that a deadline was met.
On liability, it pays to be precise. Standard carrier liability is capped and carries exclusions, so on anything valuable it sits below the real replacement cost. For cover up to the full value you declare, activate Goods in Transit insurance at booking. Without it, goods travel at the owner's risk. Full details of what we accept for carriage are set out in our Terms and Conditions of Carriage.
Why a specialist beats standard post for documents
Ordinary post has no chain of custody. A specialist document courier gives you the things that matter when a document is business-critical:
- Tracking and accountability - a named shipment you can follow, not a letter that disappears into a system.
- Signature proof of delivery - documented evidence the papers arrived and were received.
- Door-to-door service - collection and delivery handled for you, with no depot queues.
- Customs support - the right documentation prepared so the shipment does not stall at the border.
- Optional full-value cover - Goods in Transit insurance for the shipments you cannot afford to lose.
International document courier FAQ
How are important documents tracked in transit?
Each shipment carries a tracking reference, so you can follow it through the key milestones - collection, departure, customs and final delivery - rather than posting it and hoping. If anything needs attention along the way, the shipment is identifiable and traceable at every stage.
What happens at customs for couriered documents?
Documents are declared on the courier waybill, with any commercial or export documentation the destination requires. Requirements vary by country, so we prepare the paperwork to match the destination and align it to the South African export framework set out by SARS Customs and Excise.
Can I get proof of delivery?
Yes. Your documents are signed for on delivery and you receive a signature-based proof of delivery. That record is your documented evidence that the papers reached the right person and a deadline was met.
How should I package documents for international courier?
Keep originals flat and undamaged, and hand them over in a rigid, tamper-evident document envelope or pouch. We seal your documents in tamper-evident packaging at collection so any interference is visible on arrival. Where a document is irreplaceable, keep a certified copy on file before it ships.
What types of documents can you courier?
Business, legal and commercial documents - contracts and signed agreements, tender and legal papers, certificates, Bills of Lading and trade documents, import permits, export licences and business correspondence. We do not courier personal identity documents such as passports, ID books, ID cards or driver's licences, and we do not carry cash or valuables.
Are my documents insured in transit?
Standard carrier liability is capped and carries exclusions. For cover up to the full value you declare, activate Goods in Transit insurance when you book - see our Goods in Transit insurance page for what it covers. Without it, documents travel at the owner's risk.
